Montes Niviferi

Jacek Łuc - Lower Silesia, Poland

Giant Mountains are located in the south-western part of Poland, on the Polish-Czech border. Have been known from antiquity under different names. Each of these names, in Greek, Latin, Czech. Polish, German refers to the different characteristics of these mountains.
My idea is to work on projects based on this variety. My goal is to complete and publish them in the form of folio and PDF.
The first project to be published is Montes Niviferi.

I am a geographer by profession and a landscape photographer by passion, which I was involved in long before I went to the university. Worth to mention is that my thesis was on some aspects of snow cover in Giant Mountains.

I live in a small town in suburban area of Wroclaw - capital of Lower Silesia, about 100 km to Giant Mountains as the crow flies, and take every opportunity to go to there. To the place so intriguing and stimulating. Very friendly on a warm summer days, can be inhospitable, even dangerous, especially in windy and cold winter conditions.

My publishing plans include, in addition to aforementioned Montes Niviferi, that means Snow Mountains, also Korkontoi (Κορκόντοι) – from Greek that comes from proto-Indo-European Kar which means stone or mountain, and Riesengebirge (in German - Giant Mountains) with B&W photographs.

I intend to use the proceeds of the Grant to acquire proper publishing software (InDesign, Acrobat Pro) and develop skills – preferably through workshops – to use it adequately to my artistic vision and effectively — to complete the body of work.

The sample of images attached shows just a few of the photographs from Giant Mountains which I have produced during the past two winters and want to include in the first portfolio.
